I am an upper-intermediate teacher in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Teaching is a passion to which I have dedicated over 25 years. I specialize in working with students with exceptional needs and in teacher leadership and collaborative practices. Combined with those is a love of technology, not just in my personal life, but in education.
My philosophy of education is one of fairness, that all can learn and that all will learn when they are safe, comfortable, and feel supported. My philosophy includes the practices of Project-Based Learning (PBL) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and is built on the foundations of Learning Mastery.
The future holds new jobs, new vocabulary, new technologies, new ideologies, new art, music, and myriad creative processes, so our job as educators is to move away from the teaching practices suited for a manufacturing-based economy and to move toward a tertiary, creative, knowledge-based economy. While manufacturing will always be important, creativity will be the leader in developing new processes and tools. Therefore, our jobs as teachers is to TEACH STUDENTS HOW TO LEARN.
On this site I have a few examples of some of the work that students have done over the years, as well as some examples of the types of resources I have created to make learning more fun, meaningful, and accessible.
